The story

Dhodap is a hill fort in Chandwad taluka of Nashik district, 1,472 m above sea level in the Satmala range. It is the second-highest fort in the Sahyadris after Salher, and only Kalsubai and Salher rise higher among Maharashtra's peaks. Its distinctive shape can be seen from the Nashik–Malegaon highway, and climbs start from Dhodambe, about 8 km from Wadali Bhoi, or from Hanmantpada in Devla taluka.

Shivaji is presumed to have stopped here to store treasure while coming back from his second attack on Surat in 1670, shortly before the Battle of Dindori. In 1768 Madhavrao Peshwa defeated his uncle Raghobadada nearby, and Raghobadada took refuge in the fort. The top is built of dressed stone and brick, with a tank holding a Hanuman image, a 5 m wide tunnel, a cave temple, a pointed cliff called Shembi and the sheer eastern face of Ikhara, favoured by rock climbers. Villagers tell of a stone cow that moves inside the hill each Vasubaras.
