Rajdher Fort stands about 10 km from Chandwad in Nashik district and ranks among the district's important forts. It predates the Yadavas, who held it in 1216–17, and later came under Alauddin Khalji and then the Farukis. After the Mughals took Khandesh it was given in 1601 to Ramajipant of Bhadgaon, and chronicles place it under Shivaji. The Nizam surrendered it to the Peshwa by the Treaty of Bhalki in 1752, and in 1762 it was leased to Vitthal Shivdev for ten thousand rupees a year. Colonel Prother of the British army took it on 15 April 1818 after a hard fight with Nikam Deshmukh.
From Rajdeherwadi, 11 km from Chandwad, a wide, safe and treeless path marked with limestone reaches the single gate in about two hours. The gate carries a Persian inscription, and a rock-cut cistern holds drinking water all year. Trekkers can sleep in caves on the fort, though most stay at the village temple, and villagers arrange food and lodging.
