01 — The story

The story

Founded in 1956, the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy sits in the Pragati Maidan area of Delhi and holds more than 35,000 rare objects made by Indian craftspeople. Its galleries are organised around textiles, folk culture, tribal art and courtly crafts, and artisans demonstrate metalwork, textile work and other skills in a dedicated area.

Outdoors, a village complex of about 5 acres brings together 15 traditional buildings from different parts of India. Among the notable pieces in the collection are Kashmiri dushalas around 300 years old, Baluchari saris and the Bhoota Collection from Karnataka.
