Krishnabai Temple stands on a cliff edge in Mahabaleshwar, in Satara district, and looks out over the valley of the Krishna River. The temple honours the river, which tradition says begins here, and is dedicated to Shiva. It dates from the 19th century and was built from black stone combined with brick.
The shrine follows the Hemadpanti style. Inside, the main object of worship is a Shiva lingam held in deep respect by local people, and there is also an image of Krishna. The setting is part of the attraction, since the clifftop position gives broad views across the Krishna valley.
