The story

The botanical garden in Kohima, Nagaland's capital, is a green leisure space devoted to the region's plant life. Its collections include medicinal herbs, orchids and many kinds of bamboo, along with some species found only around Kohima, and it is popular with photographers as well as families.

Trails run through dense woodland to viewpoints and watchtowers, and the grounds also hold a greenhouse, ponds, gazebos and a children's play area. A full visit usually takes two to three hours. Beyond recreation, the garden runs guided walks, workshops and educational sessions on plant biology, ecology and the conservation of habitats.
