Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, in the Nizamuddin West area of Delhi, is the shrine of the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya and draws thousands of pilgrims every week. Muhammad bin Tughluq built the first tomb after the saint's death in 1325, Firuz Shah Tughlaq hung golden cups in the dome, and the present white dome dates to 1562. Carved jali screens and a marble patio surround the tomb.
The complex holds more than seventy graves. The tomb of the poet Amir Khusrau, the saint's disciple, and that of Shah Jahan's daughter Jahanara Begum lie at the entrance, and the historian Ziauddin Barani is also buried here. Next door is the red sandstone Jamat Khana Masjid, built by Khizr Khan and completed in 1312-13, with Quranic inscriptions and lotus-bud arches, and there is a baoli as well. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture restored the complex around 2010. Evening qawwali sessions are the best-known part of a visit.
