Gurudwara Buddha Johad stands by Dabla village in Raisinghnagar tehsil, Ganganagar district, on the Padampur–Jaitsar road about 15 km from Jaitsar. It recalls an episode of 1740, when Massa Ranghar, posted by the Lahore governor Zakariya Khan to keep Sikhs away from Amritsar, occupied the Golden Temple and defiled it with drinking and dancing in the sanctum. On 11 August 1740 Sukha Singh and Mehtab Singh entered in disguise, claiming to bring revenue, beheaded him and escaped.
The two carried the head to what was then jungle in northern Rajasthan and hung it from a tree at Buddha Johad, and many years later a large gurdwara grew up on the spot. A jand tree, said to be where they tied their horses, stood until it fell in 2000. The complex has historical paintings and a large pond, students come to learn Gurbani singing, and devotees gather on the dark-moon day, Massya, when a fair is held.
