The story

Dadhimati Mata Temple lies between Goth and Manglod villages in Jayal tehsil, Nagaur district. An inscription found at the site shows it existed by 608 CE, and tradition holds the temple to be more than 2,000 years old. The goddess Dadhimati, said to be the sister of the sage Dadhichi and identified in the Kapalapitha Mahatmya with Lakshmi, is the family deity of the Dahima communities and of special importance to the Dadheech Brahmins. The temple is counted among the 52 Shakti Peethas.

It is known for early depictions of the Devi Mahatmya, said to be older than those at the Mahalakshmi temple in Kolhapur, and for scenes from the Valmiki Ramayana inside. Devotees perform abhishek with milk every day, and large fairs are held twice a year during the Navratris of Chaitra and Ashwin.
