Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary covers 389.54 sq km in southern Tripura and has been protected since 1988. Its cover is a mix of deciduous and semi-evergreen forest.
Among its primates are spectacled and capped langurs, pig-tailed macaques, slow lorises and hoolock gibbons. Other mammals include barking deer, clouded leopards, leopard cats, wild boar, crab-eating mongooses and porcupines, and the Indian python also lives here. Dumbur Lake lies within the sanctuary and once drew about 17 migratory and 126 resident bird species, though bird visits fell sharply in the late 2010s.
