The Adi Shakti Dhandai Devi (Mahalakshmi) Mandir stands at Mhasdi, near Sakri taluka in Maharashtra's Khandesh region. It is a principal shrine for Khandesh's Marathi people, and many communities, among them Marathi Brahmins, Maratha-Kunbis, Lonaris and Malis, honour the goddess as their kuldevi, or family deity. She is believed to have miraculous powers.
Dhandai Devi is the kuldevi of the Shinde (Scindia) family of Khandesh. In the 1500s the Shinde, Deore, Bedse and other clans, who shared Mahalakshmi as their clan deity, came from Rajasthan and built a stone temple in the Marathi manner to worship her. Devotees crowd the temple during Navaratri and Chaitra Navaratri.
