Chakkamkulangara Siva Temple stands just north of the Poornathrayeesa Temple in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam district, once the capital of the Cochin kingdom. Built in the Kerala-Dravidian style and more than 1,000 years old, it is one of the 108 Shiva temples of Kerala, mentioned as Adampalli in the 108 Shivalaya Stotram, and folklore credits Parashurama with installing its idol. It ranked among the leading temples of the Cochin state.
Shiva is worshipped here as the Swayamvara murthy, though originally he was the fierce eight-armed Mrityunjaya; the west-facing sanctum has Parvati behind him, and a large pond lies to the west. The temple is equally known for its Navagraha installation. A seven-day Sivarathri festival is held every year in Kumbham (February–March).
