The story

Changampuzha Park is a recreational park and cultural venue at Edappally in Kochi, the birthplace of the Malayalam romantic poet Changampuzha Krishna Pillai, beside the national highway to Aluva. Established in 1977 and maintained by the Greater Cochin Development Authority, it serves as a living memorial to the poet and holds his statue, along with the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendram, a cultural society.

The park was long troubled by anti-social elements until the society began its work; in 2001–02 it staged Viswa Kala Sangamam, three weeks of performances and workshops, and has held events regularly since. A 40-by-40-foot open-air stage hosts Kathakali, traditional theatre and drama. There is a children's play area with swings, slides, seesaws and a merry-go-round, recreation rooms for chess and carroms, sculptures from camps held in the park, and an aircraft at one end facing the highway. A Kochi Metro station named after the park stands right in front.
