Vallarpadam is an island within the city of Kochi, set in Vembanad Lake. It matters both as a pilgrimage centre and for its commercial role in the city, and it draws pilgrims, business travellers and day visitors alike.
The island's best-known landmark is Vallarpadam Church, formally the Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom, which is dedicated to Mary and visited by Christian pilgrims from Kerala and beyond. Its yearly feast, the Vallarpadathamma Perunnal, brings thousands of devotees from across the state.
