Bolgatty is one of the four islands of Kochi, along with Fort Cochin, Willingdon and Vypeen. Its best-known building is Bolgatty Palace, an 18th-century Dutch building raised as a home for their governors and later used by the British governors. The palace now runs as a heritage hotel under the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation and looks out over Vembanad Lake.
The island also has the Kochi International Marina, described as the only one of its type in India, with berths for up to 34 yachts and supply of water and electricity plus sewage pump-out. A golf course, coconut palms and waterfront paths cover much of the remaining land.
