The story

Bohra Ganesh Temple stands on Bohra Ganesh Road near the Ahad Museum and Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, about 2 km from the city centre. Believed to be around 350 years old, it was first called Borganesh and lay outside the city limits, which have since grown around it. Its east-facing image shows Ganesh in a dancing pose, and in Udaipur it is held in the same regard as Moti Dungari in Jaipur.

The present name comes from a belief that, some 70–80 years ago, people needing money for a wedding or business would leave a written request before the idol, receive the sum, and later repay it with interest, the Bohras being known as moneylenders. On Ganesh Chaturthi the temple opens from midnight until early morning and around 2 to 2.5 lakh devotees come. At Annakoot, after Diwali, the deity receives Chappan Bhog, 56 dishes, after a dawn Aangi ritual and before the evening Maha Aarti.
