The story

The Biodiversity Park in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, was created at the time of the 2012 Convention on Biological Diversity and inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh; it opened to the public on 19 January 2015. It lies 1.6 km from Raidurg metro station and is cared for by the Telangana Forest Department.

The 13-acre park is divided into four sectors holding more than 200 plant species, each planted by a scientist who attended the convention and representing a UN member country. Its centrepiece is a 32 ft elliptical limestone pylon tracing the evolution of life from atoms to humans, topped by a DNA double helix. Rings around its base stand for the five elements: a black granite path engraved with species names, a fire ring in red granite and yellow limestone, and an 'ether' ring showing a world map with blue oceans.
