01 — The story

The story

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park, usually called KBR Park, is a 390-acre green reserve between Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills in Hyderabad. It was set up in 1998 and named after a former chief minister. Around 600 plant species, over 100 kinds of birds and about 30 butterfly species have been recorded, along with deer, monkeys and reptiles. Rock outcrops and a small lake add to the scenery, and it is popular with walkers and picnickers.

The land is thought to have once belonged to the Golconda kingdom. Within it lies the Chiran Palace, the prince's family home of about 6,000 sq m, reached by its own entrance rather than the park gate. The same estate holds Gol Bungalow, Mor Bungalow, stables for horses, elephants and cattle, wells, water tanks, a fuel pump and a motor garage.
