01 — The story

The story

Lumbini Park is a public garden on the shore of Hussain Sagar in central Hyderabad. It takes its name from Lumbini in Nepal, the birthplace of the Buddha, and was opened in 1994 by N. T. Rama Rao, then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Families come for its lawns, flower beds, shady trees and views across the water.

The park looks out on the Buddha statue that stands in the middle of the lake. A statue of Telangana Talli, the figure that personifies the state and its people, can also be seen nearby. It is an easy place for an evening walk in the heart of the city.
