The story

Bhongir Fort crowns a single huge monolithic rock that rises over the town of Bhongir (Bhuvanagiri) in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, about 50 km from Hyderabad. The summit gives wide views over the surrounding country, and the hill shrine of Yadagirigutta lies close by.

An ancient flight of steps climbs from the foot of the rock to the summit, a walk manageable for beginners as well as seasoned hikers. Along the way the fort shows its defensive design: gateways built with traps for attackers and passages that run underground. The bare rock faces also make it a well-known spot for rope climbing and bouldering, and a climbing school in Bhongir trains newcomers.
