Bala Quila, also known as Alwar Fort, occupies an Aravalli hilltop overlooking the town of Alwar in Rajasthan. It stretches about 5 km in length and 1.5 km in width. The first fort here is credited to the Nikumbh Rajputs, a Suryavanshi clan among Rajasthan's early rulers. Hasan Khan Mewati rebuilt it in 1521, after which it passed to the Mughals, and it was later captured by Maharao Raja Pratap Singh of Alwar State.
Along the ridgetop, 340 m above the town, the walls carry 15 large and 52 small towers. Eight large bastions guard the circuit, and the defences include 446 openings for musket fire.
