The story

Sariska is a tiger reserve and national park in the Aravalli hills of Alwar district. Once the hunting ground of the Maharaja of Alwar, it is now protected, and after a severe fall in tiger numbers efforts have been made to bring the big cats back. Its terrain combines dry deciduous forest, grassland, rocky ridges and lakes such as Somsagar.

Bengal tigers share the park with leopards, hyenas and several kinds of deer and antelope, and more than 200 bird species have been recorded, from the Indian peafowl to the crested serpent eagle. Safaris run early in the morning and in the evening, when animals are most active. November to March is the best season, as animals gather near water. Old temples, forts and ruins are scattered through the reserve.
