Naldeshwar is a Shiva temple set in the rocky Aravalli hills about 24 km south of Alwar. Vehicles stop around 5 km short of the shrine, and the approach from Madhopur village is on foot, either along a trekking trail or up a flight of about 200 steps cut into the rock. A tea and snack stall on the way makes it an easy walk for beginners.
The Shivling looks as if it were cut from the rock, though local people say it appeared by itself. Two natural ponds within the complex are filled by water running off the hills, and little streams and falls drop from the rocks around them. The name is linked to Raja Nal of the Mahabharata: the story goes that he offended Shiva, was struck with a skin disease, and was cured after praying here and bathing in the spring. Climbing the nearby hills gives a wide view over the range.
