The story

The Abhimanyu Temple at Vadayothidam, near Mokeri in Kozhikode district, Kerala, is dedicated to Abhimanyu and is the only temple to him in the state. Its best-known festival is Prathishtadinam, held in March.

The temple is built in the local style of the Malabar coast, suited to heat and heavy monsoon rain. Rather than granite, it uses local laterite and wood: the laterite walls are covered in lime plaster to keep water out, and steep roofs of timber and tiles shed the rain quickly. The structure has five main parts, from a granite base up to a decorative crown.
