The story

The Kunjali Marakkar Museum stands at Kottakkal, near Vadakara in Kozhikode district. It remembers the Kunjali Marakkars, four successive admirals in the service of the Zamorin of Calicut and fought Portuguese fleets along the Malabar Coast in the 16th century.

The collection includes swords, spears, cannons, armour and documents, along with material on the vessels of the period and displays on the Marakkars' campaigns and battles. The building is designed in the style of a Kerala nalukettu, with sloping tiled roofs, wooden pillars and carved doors. Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach and Lokanarkavu Temple are among the sights nearby.
