The story

This shrine in Danter village, Anantnag district, holds the grave of Baba Hyder Reshi along with those of 21 of his disciples. The saint, also known as Reshi Maloo, Baba Hardi Rishi and Resh Mir Sahib, was born into a modest family in 1504, served at a local ruler's court and then gave up his possessions for a life of service and devotion.

Pilgrims and visitors come through the year to pay respects at the tomb. He is said never to have eaten meat, and around his yearly death anniversary devotees keep a week without meat in his memory, honouring his teaching of kindness and non-violence.
