Vedarajan Temple is a Vishnu temple in the village of Thirunagari in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu. Vishnu is worshipped as Vedarajan and Lakshmi as Amruthavalli, and the temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams, praised by Kulasekara Alvar and Thirumangai Alvar. Tradition holds that Thirumangai Alvar was born here. In the legend, a prince named Sangabalan turned to robbery to feed a thousand devotees of Vishnu to marry Kumudavalli; when he tried to rob Vishnu and Lakshmi themselves, Vishnu uttered a sacred mantra in his ear and he became the Alvar.
The temple is thought to have been founded by the Cholas, with pillared halls and major shrines added by Vijayanagara and Thanjavur Nayak kings in the 16th century. It covers about 2 acres inside granite walls, and its seven-tiered gopuram reaches 125 ft. The raised central shrine holds a seated granite image of Vedarajan, and its vimana carries stucco figures including the Dasavatara. The Thirumangai Alvar festival in the month of Thai includes a Garudasevai at Thirunangur.
