Thiruarimeya Vinnagaram, or the Kudamadukoothan Perumal Temple, stands among paddy fields in Tirunangur, a village 10 kilometres from Sirkazhi on the road to Thiruvenkadu. Dedicated to Vishnu, worshipped as Kudamadukoothan with Lakshmi as Amirtagadavalli, it counts among the 108 Divya Desams, praised by Periyalvar, Tirumalisai Alvar and Thirumangai Alvar, and one of the eleven Tirunangur Tirupatis. Legend says that when Shiva danced in fury after the death of Sati, eleven forms of Shiva sprang up wherever his hair touched the ground; Vishnu appeared to calm him and, at Shiva's request, took eleven forms at the sites of the eleven temples.
The temple has a three-tiered gopuram, with its tank to the north. In the sanctum Krishna sits facing east with his legs on a pot, the pose Thirumangai Alvar had in mind when he called the god 'pot dancer'. In the Tamil month of Thai the Garudasevai festival brings the festival images of all eleven Tirunangur temples to the village on Garuda mounts.
