01 — The story

The story

Ved Mandir in Nashik is a temple devoted to the Vedas, the four ancient Sanskrit collections (Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda and Atharvaveda) on which Hinduism rests. It is dedicated to Guru Gangeshwaranandji Maharaj, regarded by followers as a modern champion of Vedic learning, whose idol is installed here alongside those of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita.

The building is made of Italian marble, with glass walls, carved pillars and floodlit interiors, and quiet prayer halls carry Sanskrit inscriptions. Besides worship, the temple keeps original Vedic manuscripts along with audio and video recordings of Vedic chants, and it promotes Vedic study and ritual. Priests perform traditional ceremonies, and the setting of hills and greenery makes it a calm stop.
