The story

Tifra Kali Mandir is a modern Hindu temple in Bilaspur dedicated to the goddess Kali. From outside it shows a group of flag-topped shikhara spires and walls in red and white, a fairly plain exterior that gives little hint of the interior, where nearly every wall carries carvings of myths, celestial figures and sacred symbols.

Kali's image sits in the central garbha griha. Around it are halls for Vishnu, Shiva, Rama with Sita and Lakshman, Hanuman, Krishna, Durga and other forms of the goddess. A raised platform in the courtyard holds images of the nine planets, and a small pond lies close by. Navratri and Diwali are the main festivals, when yagnas are performed, and the temple also hosts Ramlila, kirtans and devotional concerts open to all.
