The story

Kanan Pendari Zoological Park and Botanical Garden occupies about 114 acres in Bilaspur and was created to care for the local wildlife. Its name joins kanan, meaning forest, and pendari, meaning garden, and it combines a zoo with landscaped gardens and leisure areas. It takes part in conservation work, including the keeping of endangered species.

More than 50 species of animals and birds live among lawns, flower beds and shady paths. A quiet lake lined with small huts forms the centre of the grounds, with a promenade along its shore, and the birdlife makes it a good spot for watching birds. Food stalls on site serve local snacks, and the park is a popular choice for family outings.
