The story

Thevally Palace stands on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake at Thevally in Kollam city and is regarded as one of the city's landmarks. Gowri Parvati Bayi was on the throne when it was built, between 1811 and 1819, when Kollam was the capital of the Travancore kingdom. The Travancore kings stayed here on visits to Kollam to meet the British Residents and their officials, and the building once served administrative purposes.

Its design mixes British, Dutch and Portuguese styles, and the structure is built of laterite and lime plaster. The palace grounds include a temple of Sastha. The lakeside setting is its chief attraction. The Public Works Department owns the property, and the palace now houses the NCC Group Headquarters for Kollam district.
