The Asramam Sree Krishna Swamy Temple stands on the shore of Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam. Krishna is worshipped here as Navaneeta Krishna, the child holding butter. The temple sits on a mound made from earth dug out nearby, and the hollow left behind became the temple pond.
Sub-deities include Ayyappan, whose separate shrine reproduces the 18 holy steps of Sabarimala, along with the serpent deities and the Navagrahas. The temple's ten-day festival, usually in mid-April, ends with Kollam Pooram.
