The Tea Factory and Museum stands on Doddabetta Road in Ooty and explains how tea came to the Nilgiris and how it is made. Its exhibits follow the story from the first experimental plantations of 1835, set up in the British colonial period, through the work of early planters to the plucking and factory processing of today.
Visitors can taste tea in several flavours, such as cardamom, masala, ginger and green. A section of the building makes homemade chocolates, and a souvenir shop sells tea cups, plates and T-shirts carrying the museum's logo.
