The Rose Garden in Ooty, on the slopes of Elk Hill, was laid out in 1995 to mark the Centenary Flower Festival. Spread over 4 hectares, it holds roughly 20,000 rose varieties, including hybrid teas, floribundas, polyanthas and ramblers, and it is one of only 35 rose gardens worldwide to hold the Garden of Excellence Award from the World Federation of Rose Societies.
Paths pass through rose tunnels and under pergolas covered in climbing roses. The Nila Maadam, an observation platform, gives a view over the whole garden, which is admired for its layout and arrangements and draws visitors even in winter.
