The story

The Swaminarayan Temple dates from 1827 and is counted among the older temples of the Swaminarayan sect in India. Built in traditional Gujarati style, it has carved and decorated walls and ceilings, and stone inscriptions of sacred verses and hymns. Large gardens around it are used by local people for walks, gatherings and festivals.

About 500 craftsmen worked on the temple. Its teak-wood entrance rises more than 22 feet, and a sacred pond called Mani Sarovar is believed to have healing powers. A legend holds that Krishna and Radha came here in disguise to seek blessings, and the temple marks the Rath Yatra each year.
