01 — The story

The story

The Dominican Monastery in Daman was erected by the Portuguese during the 1500s and reflects the meeting of European and Indian cultures during the colonial period. It was established as a place of prayer, and its tall spires and quiet grounds stand apart from the bustle of daily life outside.

Within the complex are several shrines, including chapels dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary and to St. Dominic. Both are noted for their architecture and remain the main features for those walking through the old corridors.
