The story

The Statue of Queen Victoria stands in Queen's Park beside Cubbon Park, at a three-way junction on the old boundary between the Bangalore Cantonment and the Pete. After the queen's death in 1901, a memorial fund in the Cantonment raised ₹10,000 in six months, and Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV of Mysore met the remaining ₹15,500. Sir Thomas Brock, sculptor of the Victoria Memorial in London, made it as a copy of his 1890 figure for Worcester; it was shipped from England and unveiled on 5 February 1906 by the Prince of Wales, later George V.

The marble figure is 11 feet tall on a 13-foot granite pedestal, with inscriptions repeated in Kannada, Tamil and Urdu. The queen wears Garter robes and holds a sceptre and orb, though the orb's cross is missing and the sceptre is broken. It is one of only five of the more than fifty Victoria statues in British India still standing where they were first put up. Edward VII's statue stands at the park's far end.
