St. Philomena's Forane Church, popularly called Koonammavu Church, stands in Koonammavu, a suburban town in the north of Kochi. Built in 1837, it counts among the oldest Roman Catholic churches in India.
Although dedicated to the Virgin Philomena, the church keeps its annual festival for Saint Chavara Achan, a nine-day event from 26 December to 3 January that runs alongside Christmas and the New Year. Non-Christians also come here as pilgrims. It is the seventh forane of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Verapoly and has 12 churches in its charge, among them the Minor Basilica at Varapuzha.
