Thottuva Dhanwanthari Temple stands about 1 km from Thottuva junction in Koovapady panchayat, Ernakulam district, on the Perumbavoor–Kodanad route, and can also be reached from the Thottuva boat jetty. Said to be more than 1,000 years old, it is the only temple in Kerala where Adi Dhanwanthari, god of medicine, is the main deity. The east-facing idol is almost six feet tall, holding amrith in the right hand and atta, conch and discus in the left. It belongs to the Koramboor Mana family and is run by a trust.
Devotees bathe in the small stream on the south side before darshan, and it is believed that ailments of vata, pitta and kapha are eased by staying here to meditate; Ayurveda doctors also come to worship. Butter is the chief offering. From the 1st to the 11th of Dhanu the deity is dressed in the ten avatars of Vishnu, a vow first kept by a childless Koramboor Namboothiri who was then blessed with a child.
