The story

Thrikkunnathu St. Mary's Orthodox Syrian Church stands near Aluva in Ernakulam district and is the church of Thrikkunnathu Seminary, where the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church's Angamaly Diocese has its headquarters. The seminary was shut for 40 years during the dispute between the Jacobite and Orthodox factions and, after a Supreme Court verdict, is run by the Orthodox Church.

The Malankara Syrian Church acquired 18 acres here in 1880 and laid a cornerstone in 1889. The first church was a small building roofed with coconut thatch; Paulose Mar Athanasius built the present one in the early 1930s, and its western end was extended in 1964. Patriarchs of Antioch visited in 1911, 1931 and 1964. The church holds the tombs of four bishops, among them Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasios and Geevarghese Mar Gregorios.
