Sree Vasudevapuram Mahavishnu Temple lies in Kunnukara panchayat near Aluva, about 9 km west of Cochin International Airport. Its idol, said to have been consecrated by Parashurama, shows Vishnu embracing Mahalakshmi. Legend says the temple lost its wealth when its Brahmin keepers neglected the rituals, until Vilwamangalam Swamikal saw the goddess absorbed in serving Vishnu and pleaded with her to hear devotees' prayers. She agreed to bless them for eight days from Akshaya Tritiya, in the eight forms of Ashtalakshmi.
Those eight days in Vaisakha (April–May) are the temple's high point. Devotees perform Tambula Samarpanam, placing three betel leaves, arecanut and money before Vishnu and Lakshmi, and women alone may make the rice and turmeric para offering. Year-round offerings include Moonnu Uruli Nivedyam, sweets served in gold, silver and bronze vessels, booked in advance, and Muzhukkappu, covering the idol in sandalwood. A Mahalakshmi Pooja is held on the full moon of Aswina.
