The story

The Siddhanath Temple at Kharsundi is a large historical temple, said to be 450 years old, to a deity believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. Known here as Nathbaba, he is the patron god of Atpadi and neighbouring areas, and one of several regional protective gods, or kshetrapals, of Maharashtra.

Local tradition gives him two wives. Goddess Jogeshwari stays with him, while Goddess Zakabai lives a few kilometres away near Neilkarnji, and Jogeshwari is said to allow a meeting only once in three years. On that occasion, around December, villagers go with his palki to see her. Nearby at Gohdapur is a spring that never runs dry, said to have begun when his horse, startled by a snake, struck the ground with its feet.
