The story

Bhushangad is a hill fort in Khatav taluka of Satara district, Maharashtra. Oval in shape, it rises about 180 metres above the surrounding plain, and its flat top covers roughly 250 square metres.

Its origins are unclear. Local legend credits King Singhana of Devagiri (1210–1246), while another account attributes it to Shivaji in 1676, as part of a chain of defences with the nearby Vardhangad, Sadashivgad and Machindragad forts. The fort holds the only temple of Haranaidevi, a form of Durga revered by the Kulkarni clan, and a temple to Maruti.
