Baramotichi Vihir is a stepwell in Limb village, about 16 km from Satara and roughly 99 km from Pune. Virubai Bhosale, one of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj's secondary wives, had it made in 1719–24 to supply water to around 300 mango plantations nearby. The well reaches a depth of 110 ft and measures 50 ft across.
The whole structure is of black stone, and its octagonal form is likened to a Shivling dug into the ground. With its 12 moats it fed the surrounding farms and also helped carry away surplus water during the monsoon. Looking down from the top, visitors can make out small walls and water channels, and old statues and other historical structures survive within the well, along with a mahal.
