01 — The story

The story

The Shri Vinayaka Shankaranarayana Durgamba temple stands beside the Netravathi river at Nandavara in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, 3 km from Marnabailu. Its sanctums honour three deities, Lord Vinayaka, Lord Shankara Narayana and Lord Shri Durgamba, and devotees take part in its long-established Jathra Mahotsava and other religious events.

The old kshethra has been through considerable renewal. The sanctums and Thirtha Mantap have been remodelled, and a new main entrance with a Swagatha Gopuram and a brass-covered flagpole now mark the approach. Additions include the Nanda Deepa auditorium, a new Bhojanashala and a building called the Community Tower. The temple also runs a midday meals programme and free medical check-up camps for people of the region.
