The story

Shaurya Smarak in Bhopal is a war memorial to members of the Army, Navy and Air Force who died serving India. Designed by the Mumbai architect Shona Jain, it was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 October 2016. Its centrepiece, the Shaurya Stambh, is a 62-foot granite column on a marble base with a red mark at its foot for bloodshed, set beside a holographic flame and a red sculpture that reads as a 'Namaskar' from one angle and a drop of blood from another.

Below ground, a museum covers the wars with Pakistan and China through models of ships, submarines and aircraft, along with displays of ranks and badges. One room recreates the cold of the Siachen Glacier. A 37-foot bronze Bharat Mata statue also stands at the site.
