The story

Rowa Wildlife Sanctuary is a small protected forest of just 0.858 sq km in North Tripura district, close to the town of Panisagar. Declared in 1988, it lies under heavy human pressure, with a risk of fragmentation, and despite fairly high rainfall it is classed as highly prone to fire.

Its woodland mixes deciduous, semi-evergreen and moist deciduous secondary forest with patches of bamboo, where Macaranga denticulata, Senna siamea and Microcos paniculata are the commonest plants. Barking deer, wild boar, pig-tailed macaques, crab-eating mongooses, Indian porcupines and rock pythons live here, and the birdlife includes barbets, bulbuls, darters, drongos, orioles, owls, parakeets, sunbirds, woodpeckers, treepies and jungle mynas.
