The Regional Science Centre, Bhopal, stands in the Shyamla Hills area of the city and is a unit of the National Council of Science Museums. Opened on 12 January 1995 by President Shankar Dayal Sharma, it aims to spread interest in science among the public, especially students, and is the only science centre in Madhya Pradesh.
It has more than 266 exhibits across many branches of science, most of them interactive. The 5-acre campus includes a 3-acre science park with over 60 outdoor exhibits such as pulleys, a windmill and solar-powered devices, a small dinosaur park and a zoo. There is a 200-seat auditorium, a hall for 3D science shows and a small inflatable planetarium for 25 people. Sky observation sessions are held at weekends after sunset and during notable astronomical events, along with lectures, film shows and science fairs, and a mobile exhibition bus tours towns and villages of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
