01 — The story

The story

Rai Parveen Mahal in Orchha was built in the 17th century in honour of Rai Parveen, a poet, musician and dancer at the court of Raja Indrajit Singh who is remembered as the 'Nightingale of Orchha'. Gardens surround the palace.

The building has two storeys and a fairly plain design, relieved by carvings, decorated balconies and fine latticework. Its open terraces and ornamented halls were meant to serve both as her home and as the setting for her recitals of poetry and music.
