The Raghunath Temple in Jammu was conceived by Maharaja Gulab Singh, founder of the Dogra dynasty, as a major place of worship for Rama. Its foundation stone went down in 1835, and the finished complex contains seven shrines with tall spires and detailed decoration.
The main sanctum holds images of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana. Other shrines are dedicated to Shiva, Hanuman and Durga, and the complex also has a large Shivalinga, many smaller lingams and a gallery depicting the ten avatars of Vishnu. The markets of old Jammu, Bahu Fort and Peer Kho Cave are close by.
